This Hooksett homeowner was dealing with water intrusion around an aging basement bulkhead. During our inspection, we found that the concrete-block foundation cap had deteriorated, leaving openings where water could enter the bulkhead area. The existing steel bulkhead was also heavily rusted and had rotted through in several places. Because both the door and its mounting surface were compromised, replacing the bulkhead alone would not have provided a complete or lasting repair.

Broman Basement Solutions removed and disposed of the old bulkhead, removed the deteriorated concrete-block cap, and thoroughly cleaned and prepared the existing foundation. We then built custom forms around the basement entrance and poured a new concrete foundation cap to create a solid, level, and durable mounting surface.

After the concrete had set and the forms were removed, we anchored and installed a new Type B BILCO basement bulkhead. The installation included the BILCO weather-sealing system. We also sealed the accessible exterior joints and connection points with commercial-grade exterior caulking to help prevent water intrusion.

The result: a stronger, cleaner, and better-sealed basement entrance with a new poured-concrete cap and dependable BILCO bulkhead.
